Then they sent to him some Pharisees and some Herodians
to trap him in what he said. 14And they came and said
to him, ‘Teacher, we know that you are sincere, and
show deference to no one; for you do not regard people
with partiality, but teach the way of God in accordance
with truth. Is it lawful to pay taxes to the emperor,
or not? 15Should we pay them, or should we not?’ But
knowing their hypocrisy, he said to them, ‘Why are
you putting me to the test? Bring me a denarius and
let me see it.’ 16And they brought one. Then he said
to them, ‘Whose head is this, and whose title?’ They
answered, ‘The emperor’s.’ 17Jesus said to them,
‘Give to the emperor the things that are the emperor’s,
and to God the things that are God’s.’ And they were
utterly amazed at him.
13 後來他們打發幾個法利賽人和幾個希律黨的人、到耶穌那裡、要就著他的話陷害他。
14 他們來了、就對他說、夫子、我們知道你是誠實的、甚麼人你都不徇情面．因為你不看人的外貌、乃是誠誠實實傳 神的道．納稅給該撒可以不可以。
15 我們該納不該納。耶穌知道他們的假意、就對他們說、你們為甚麼試探我．拿一個銀錢來給我看。
16 他們就拿了來。耶穌說。這像和這號是誰的．他們說、是該撒的。
17 耶穌說、該撒的物當歸給該撒、 神的物當歸給 神。他們就很希奇他。

Then the Pharisees went and plotted to entrap him in
what he said. 16So they sent their disciples to him,
along with the Herodians, saying, ‘Teacher, we know
that you are sincere, and teach the way of God in accordance
with truth, and show deference to no one; for you do
not regard people with partiality. 17Tell us, then,
what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to the emperor,
or not?’ 18But Jesus, aware of their malice, said,
‘Why are you putting me to the test, you hypocrites?
19Show me the coin used for the tax.’ And they brought
him a denarius. 20Then he said to them, ‘Whose head
is this, and whose title?’ 21They answered, ‘The emperor’s.’
Then he said to them, ‘Give therefore to the emperor
the things that are the emperor’s, and to God the things
that are God’s.’ 22When they heard this, they were
amazed; and they left him and went away.
15 當時、法利賽人出去商議、怎樣就著耶穌的話陷害他。
16 就打發他們的門徒、同希律黨的人、去見耶穌說、夫子、我們知道你是誠實人、並且誠誠實實傳 神的道、甚麼人你都不徇情面、因為你不看人的外貌。
17 請告訴我們、你的意見如何．納稅給該撒、可以不可以。
18 耶穌看出他們的惡意、就說、假冒為善的人哪、為甚麼試探我．
19 拿一個上稅的錢給我看。他們就拿一個銀錢來給他。20 耶穌說、這像和這號是誰的。
21 他們說、是該撒的。耶穌說、這樣、該撒的物當歸給該撒、 神的物當歸給 神。
22 他們聽見就希奇、離開他走了。

So they watched him and sent spies who pretended to
be honest, in order to trap him by what he said, so
as to hand him over to the jurisdiction and authority
of the governor. 21So they asked him, ‘Teacher, we
know that you are right in what you say and teach, and
you show deference to no one, but teach the way of God
in accordance with truth. 22Is it lawful for us to pay
taxes to the emperor, or not?’ 23But he perceived their
craftiness and said to them, 24‘Show me a denarius.
Whose head and whose title does it bear?’ They said,
‘The emperor’s.’ 25He said to them, ‘Then give to
the emperor the things that are the emperor’s, and
to God the things that are God’s.’ 26And they were
not able in the presence of the people to trap him by
what he said; and being amazed by his answer, they became
silent.
20 於是窺探耶穌、打發奸細裝作好人、要在他的話上得把柄、好將他交在巡撫的政權之下。
21 奸細就問耶穌說、夫子、我們曉得你所講所傳都是正道、也不取人的外貌、乃是誠誠實實傳 神的道。
22 我們納稅給該撒、可以不可以。
23 耶穌看出他們的詭詐、就對他們說、
24 拿一個銀錢來給我看．這像和這號是誰的．他們說、是該撒的。
25 耶穌說、這樣、該撒的物當歸給該撒、 神的物當歸給 神。
26 他們當著百姓、在這話上得不著把柄．又希奇他的應對、就閉口無言了。
